State Representative Robert F. Hagan (D-Youngstown) announced today that he has been named a recipient of the 2012 Environmental Achievement Award by the Ohio Environmental Council. The annual award is given to only one legislator in each chamber, and is a testament to the representative’s strong record of protecting Ohio’s natural resources.
“I am extremely proud and honored to be selected for this award,” Rep. Hagan said in his letter. “Whether it is voting against the mismanagement of our great lake resources – twice – or demanding more transparency and accountability from oil and gas companies, I will continue to fight to protect Ohio’s environment.”
Throughout his many years of public service, Representative Hagan has been a reliable and strong advocate for environmental protections. A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Rep. Hagan knows first-hand what happens when industry abandons the community that has supported it for so long, and leaves behind blight and pollution for the residents to clean up. In the Ohio lawmaker’s view, too often the state has prioritized hastily crafted economic development schemes at a detriment to the natural environment. He has consistently voted in favor of protecting Ohio’s natural resources, expanding and promoting alternative energies, conservation policies, and smart land use laws. The state legislator has served on the Ohio House Committee on Environment and Brownfield Redevelopment and has been active in the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators.
Representative Hagan will accept his award at the Ohio Environmental Council’s 2012 Green Gala.
